


Hello Dear Students and Teachers!
Schools in Italy have the possibility to set up projects that can refer to various topics. These projects are embedded in the curriculum and they are part of the daily, weekly school activities.
A project group of teachers meet together, develop and plan general aims, objectives, areas of work, financial issues, times, methodologies, evaluation, final products, strategies to value and share the project experience.
Last year ten classes of “San Filippo” Primary School chose ‘food’ as the topic for the school project; every grade from the first to the fifth developed and produced its own contribution in an interdisciplinary perspective with a final students performance in May.
This year we decided to focus on European and Global Dimension of Education and Citizenship in harmony with the main vision that inspires our Educational Offer Plan (Piano dell’ Offerta Formativa): Universal Brotherhood. Our project is called ‘Cosmopolis’.
Also other three Primary Schools and one Pre_Primary School (located in the near mountain Municipality of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina) of our Direzione Didattica take part in this project. Each schools is free to adhere to one of more ‘lines of work:
1. School for Peace and Peace at School, in cooperation with “Hathaway Brown” ‘sister school’ in Shaker Heights, Ohio; we focused on: English, Communication skills, Art and Aesthetics values;
What can we do to conceive, practice and establish definitive peace on our Planet? Teachers and students work together in joy and in harmony.
2. Identities, Colours, Communities of the World: we open our school and our classroom to Representatives of various and peaceful Communities of our Planet, one for each of the Colours that are in a very important symbol of Brotherhood we have on Earth – the ‘Sacred Wheel of Medicine’ (From American Lakota Indigenous Nation): Red, dialogue and brotherhood with American Indigenous Community, Yellow, dialogue and brotherhood with Tibetan, Chinese, Taiwanese, Asiatic Communities; White, reflecting and being aware of our ‘White’ identity; Black, dialogue and brotherhood with African Communities. We believe and we practise the ‘intercultural dialogue’. Last year we were honoured to welcome Aztec, Muslim, Buddhist Representatives as well our Diocese Bishop; precious and unforgettable experiences. We are all brothers and sisters and everything is interconnected.
3. etwinning = electronic twinning with three European schools located in France, Belgium and Romanian. We reflect and we do common research about our continent history. If it is true, like someone says, that ‘history teaches us how to live, well I personally believe that history has to focus on peaceful, harmonious, sustainable categories, events, people, examples: to much battles, wars, armies etc. Please reflect about former UNESCO Director General Federico Mayor: “`We should disarm history. There are too many battles in history, too much power, generals and soldiers. We must therefore provide our children and peoples with a different vision of history.'” (http://education.nic.in/cd50years/z/55/A9/55A90103.htm.) Care for the people, care for the children, care for the Planet Earth, care for the trees and the green grass, for the waters, the air, for every living beings. These are categories, among others, we can refer to write the new history and the new daily chronicle of our Civilization.
4. Let’s interact and twin with the world: elearning friendship and cooperation activities with Schools and Communities in the World, primarily with those Countries where pupils and families at “San Filippo” are from: e.g. Romania, Morocco, Ecuador, Nigeria, China, USA. We exchange postcards, letters, presentations, emails, we videoconference and interact during the school year from September to June.
We are proud and happy to be with you all in this Path and we are happy to give our school contribution to the Universal Brotherhood and establish definitive Peace on our Planet.
